It was in this atmosphere of “purple patches and fine phrases” that there appeared A Shropshire Lad, a slender volume containing sixty-three short poems—some only eight lines long—written. Oct 19,  · Synopsis Evocative of ‘the blue remembered hills’ of his youth, Alfred Edward Housman’s A Shropshire Lad is a collection of sixty-three poems of extraordinary beauty and feeling. Set in a semi-imaginary pastoral Shropshire, Housman’s verse considers the helplessness of man, the fragility of life and the terrible effects of war, against the background of an achingly beautiful countryside.

A Shropshire Lad contains 63 poems by Housman which talk about mortality and living life to the full. © Saland Publishing (P) Saland Publishing. More from the same. I'd got it into my head that A Shropshire Lad was a rural idyll about bucolic farm boys, milk maids and nostalgic reveries about "blue remembered hills". Enjoying a rich, fruity fragrance, Rosa 'A Shropshire Lad' is absolutely ravishing with its large rosettes displaying up to perfectly arranged, soft and peachy pink petals. Remaining beautiful at all stages, the shallow cup is delicately framed with pale outer petals that are slightly back turning. Blooming from late spring until frost, it remains attractive throughout, with the flowers.
